Accidents happen; that’s just a fact of life. It can happen to the most experienced professionals and experts. The best thing to do is to prepare for an accident by looking into the possible problems. Forklifts are the same thing, so we have listed four of the most common accidents that operators and managers should keep an eye on.

  • Operators and managers do not conduct a thorough inspection of their forklift. Many people just jump on it and go for it, when they should check every aspect of it before they use it. This will help safeguard any future accidents.

  • Not making sure the forklift is ready to go. Before jumping on a forklift, the operator should look into all the parts to ensure that the forklift is going to work. Imagine being stuck in the middle of a job because of a lack of preparation? It is here that you should be checking the following:

    • Battery power and connection

    • Handles and controls

    • Wheels

    • Dashboard

    • Gauge

  • Every worker is on the same page on what the forklift is being used for. Too many times, operators go off and do their thing without notifying surrounding employees about what they are do. This lack of communication can mean that employees walk in the way of the forklift or are not prepared for the handling of products. Make sure everyone is aware of the operator’s use of the forklift.

  • Driving on a fast speed. Just like normal drivers, speed is a problem. Operators need to take their when driving their forklifts and speeding around the work area is going to cause an accident.

  • All workers are trained and prepared for all the handle signals, lights and ground markings when the forklift is in use. If everyone is trained in what is suppose to happen, then there will no problems or accidents in future.
